- Arshdeep was included in India’s squad for the South Africa T20Is
India batting coach Vikram Rathour heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh, saying that the young pacer has shown great composure and temperament under pressure. The left-armer Arshdeep made his debut on the tour of England and has given a decent account of himself.
The Indian captains trusted Arshdeep to bowl at the death and the speedster has hardly let his team down. Rathour said that the Men in Blue are happy with Arshdeep’s progress after asking him to back his strength.
“At this level, we are not really telling them anything. Arsh has been doing pretty well in the IPL in the last 2-3 years and he has done well bowling in the death overs. We just support them to follow their plans, and strengths and they know where to bowl to each batter. They have their own plans, their own way of bowling to batters,” Rathour was quoted as saying.
“As team management, we just have discussions to back their strengths and whatever the team plans are. No specific areas but for a young kid who has just come into international cricket, so far he has shown the temperament and composure to handle pressure and bowl well in difficult conditions. So as far we are concerned, we are pretty happy with the way he is progressing,” he added.
In 11 T20Is, Arshdeep picked up 14 wickets at an economy rate of 7.38. After the Asia Cup 2022, where he was greeted with flak for dropping Asif Ali’s catch in a Super Four clash, Arshdeep was rested for the T20I series against Australia.
However, the pacer was included for India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Temba Bavuma’s South Africa.
The opening T20I is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 28 in Trivandrum.
