A Chinese representative on Monday voiced Beijing’s opposition to intervention in Venezuela’s domestic affairs by outside forces, urging the U.S. to immediately cancel its unilateral sanctions on the Latin American country.
China’s position on Venezuela has been consistent and clear, which is to defend the UN Charter and support Caracas’s search for a political solution within the framework of its constitution, the representative said during a panel of the 51st regular session of the UN Human Rights Council.
The U.S. has imposed a myriad of illegal sanctions on Venezuela, exemplifying power politics and coercive diplomacy, the representative said, adding that such acts have not only seriously obstructed Venezuela’s social economic development and efforts to improve people’s livelihood, but also harmed Venezuelans’ rights to subsistence and development.
China has consistently advocated constructive dialogues and objected to the politicization of human rights, the representative said.
The representative also opposed the report of the fact-finding mission on Venezuela, which made no mention of the consequences of unilateral sanctions and lacked impartiality and objectivity due to its use of unverified information.
