The UK is set for a couple of day of sunshine and showers before a change in the weather and some prolonged and heavy showers move in on Friday coupled by strong winds
Brits are set for a week of sunshine and showers before the country is hit by heavy rain and strong winds that could get up to 60mph.
The blustery winds and rain on Monday are expected to ease over the coming days but a low pressure to the east of the country means that there are still likely to be some showers on Wednesday down the eastern side of the country.
It is set to be sunnier in western parts but there will be sporadic showers moving down the UK while temperatures will feel fairly typical for the time of the year after a warmer than usual start to the month.
BBC weather forecaster Sarah Keith-Lucas, looking ahead to Wednesday, said: “Showers filtering down the Irish Sea coast, Northern Ireland, Wales and the south west and more persistent rain for parts of eastern Scotland and eastern England.
“But elsewhere, fewer downpours, lighter winds, so it will feel that little bit warmer in the sunshine away from that rain in the north east, 12C to 16C for most of us.”
Going into Thursday there will be more rain in the south of England but it should feel slightly warmer.
“Low pressure expected to ease away and fizzle out a little bit through the course of Thursday, still a few showers here and there, just moving around that area of low pressure,” Ms Keith-Lucas continued.
“So some showery rain to start the day across England and Wales in particular. Scotland and Northern Ireland looking a little bit drier. Bit of a change in wind direction and that will raise the temperatures to about 14C to 18C on Thursday so reasonably typical for the time of year, that should feel comfortable in the sunshine, just the odd shower around.”
But Friday will see the wind and rain hit and maps from WXCharts show that the strength of the gusts could get up to 60mph on the western coast of England, and eastern Scotland.
“Then as we head through to the end of the working week, Friday sees a real change, some heavy rain and some strong winds that are going to sweep right across the UK from west to east. So this is where the front is, you can see by the blue and green it is going to be quite a prolonged spell of wet weather, combined with some brisk winds,” Ms Keith-Lucas added.
