From blueberry milk to matcha, chrome to chocolate, the new must-try nail shades just keep coming. A moment of gratitude, then, for the brief respite from the manicure mayhem brought to us by Carey Mulligan, who debuted a refreshing naked nail look at last night’s Saltburn premiere in LA.

Leaving her sequin-skirted Balmain dress to do the talking, the actor opted for low-key hair and makeup paired with completely bare nails. What her nails lacked in color, they made up for in groomed, glossy health–which is key if you want to try this look. To ensure your nails stay looking fresh rather than forgotten, be diligent with every element of care: from cuticle removal to filing and buffing.
When it comes to length, it’s a case of the shorter the better with this look, as long nude nails can appear a little accidentally unfinished. Instead keep the shape short and, like Mulligan, following the natural curve of your nails, so that it looks intentional. And while you’re on a polish pause, use the time wisely by upping the ante on strengthening treatments, whether in the shape of a fortifying clear polish or plenty of nourishing cuticle oil. You may be going au naturel, but that’s no excuse for gnarly nails.
