Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones says the Labor government knows the fuel excise cut ending is going to “hurt households”.
“We haven’t taken this decision lightly,” he told Sky News Australia.
“But we have inherited a trillion dollars’ worth of debt … and we can’t just keep writing three-billion-dollar checks as the previous government did.”
