The future of fashion is bright, according to the newest designers of Teen Vogue’s fashion incubator program, Generation Next. Established four years ago with a mission of supporting emerging talent through mentorship, networking opportunities, and financial resources, the program is introducing a new class of six designers. The group comprises students and recent graduates who demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to fashion.
“My favorite thing that we do at Teen Vogue is identifying and lifting up young, emerging talent. Alumni from our Generation Next program have gone on to have successful careers in fashion, including winning some of the highest awards in the industry,” says Teen Vogue editor in chief Versha Sharma. “One of the most important discussions in fashion right now is digging into what sustainability actually means, what it looks like, and how we can all contribute. That won’t be possible without real innovation. I am thrilled to honor a new class of designers who are Innovators and to help support them on their creative journeys.”
In partnership with Motorola Razr, Teen Vogue is awarding each of the six Innovators with a grant designed to further their ambitions in the fashion industry. Additionally, actress and model Jodie Turner-Smith and actor Joshua Jackson—both Motorola partners and changemakers—will share guidance to the six winners through their #TheCallThatStartedItAll campaign, an initiative dedicated to highlighting pivotal moments and igniting professional storytelling. “Embracing uniqueness and individuality are qualities close to us and motorola razr,” Turner-Smith shares. “Having the opportunity to support emerging designers who are innovating with those values in mind has been a memorable experience.”
As part of their participation in the program, the six designers created pieces that integrate the iconic Motorola Razr—an emblem of today’s trending Y2K fashions. The newly completed designs will be showcased on September 28th in New York City, where Sharma and Motorola Razr will co-host a celebration of the winners.
