Victorian MP Russell Broadbent has become the second Coalition MP to move to the crossbench this term after he quit the Liberal Party.
This move came after Mr Broadbent lost his preselection vote on the weekend 160 votes to 16 to Mary Aldred.
Mr Broadbent has released a statement saying it had been an “honour to stand in the parliament as the Liberal member for Monash for the past 25 years” and wished the party all the best.
“Him jumping out when he could have served out his term quietly with the Liberal Party is an unwelcome development for the Opposition,” Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said.
“People in the Liberal Party are understandably dirty today at Russell Broadbent.”
