Congress’s Sanjay Jha on Tuesday expressed his support for Shashi Tharoor as the Congress president.
Sanjay Jha has extended support to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the party president election.
Suspended Congress leader Sanjay Jha has extended support to Thiruvananthpuram MP Shashi Tharoor in the race for the Congress president’s post. Taking to Twitter, Jha said that he would not desert him like other G-23 leaders in the Congress.
“While many of his G-23 colleagues have ditched him, I am proud to support my colleague Shashi Tharoor,” Jha said.
The Congress will take a historic decision in choosing its next President
In my opinion, the future of not just the Congress but India itself hinges on that decision. While many of his G-23 colleagues have ditched him, I am proud to support my colleague @ShashiTharoor . pic.twitter.com/tUoFshh4Vg

He further stated that the decision (on the Congress president) will not only decide the future of the party, but also that of the country. “The Congress will take a historic decision in choosing its next President. In my opinion, the future of not just the Congress but India itself hinges on that decision,” he tweeted.
He also dismissed as rumours speculation that the Gandhi family is supporting a particular candidate.
Senior Congress leaders KN Tripathi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor on September 30 filed their nominations for the post of party president. Mallikarjun Kharge’s candidature was proposed by party leaders Ashok Gehlot, Digvijaya Singh, Pramod Tiwari, PL Punia, AK Antony, Pawan Kumar Bansal, and Mukul Wasnik.
While Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh have said that they would support Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP from Sivaganga Karti Chidambaram said that he would back Shashi Tharoor.
The election will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared on October 19.
