CyberCX Chief Strategy Officer Alastair MacGibbon says it is unknown if someone has paid the ransom for the Optus data breach or if the data was bought off the criminal.
The hacker who managed to get into the Optus database has made a statement saying it was a mistake taking the data and they will be taking the information down.
“We don’t know if someone has paid the ransom, we don’t know if someone has bought the data from the criminal and therefore, they have taken it down,” he told Sky News Australia.
“We don’t know if the criminal is actually doing what they claimed online.
“Remember they’re criminals, so you’re never going to get a straight answer.”
