Greens Leader Adam Bandt has placed his support behind Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong’s call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
“We are witnessing the horrific scenes now of hospitals unable to function and the toll is being taken on civilians,” he told Sky News Australia.
Mr Bandt urged people to direct their attention to civilian casualty rates in Gaza as hospitals and healthcare workers reach their breaking point.
“We have seen over 11,000 people die – 4,000 children.
“We have condemned the civilians’ deaths and mourned the civilian deaths of the 1,200 Israelis who died, likewise, with over 11,000 Palestinians.
“4,000 children dying – that has to be the critical issue that people focus on, it is why the United Nations is on the ground.”
