Federal independent MP Zali Steggall has introduced a bill to parliament to stop lies in political advertising.
The Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Voter Protections in Political Advertising) Bill 2023 aims to bring greater integrity to the political process and Ms Steggall is urging all sides of politics to get on board.
“The main aim is to bring political advertising and politicians into line with consumer advertising so that we have the same standards,” she told Sky News.
“Whereby you can’t have misleading and deceptive statements or incomplete statements in political advertising.
“Most people take issue with the idea that politicians can lie in their political advertisings.”
